Spiritual Fervency in the Family (Part 4)

Dear Reader,

I want to specially welcome you to the last edition in our series on Spiritual Fervency in the Family. For the past few weeks, by the enabling power of the Holy Ghost, God has been opening our eyes to the need for spiritual fervency.

I believe that by now, you have started having a nice time in your relationship with God. It is my prayer that as you apply yourself to these eternal truths, great peace shall envelop your home in Jesus’ precious name.

Today, we will examine How to Attain Spiritual Fervency. There is a how to everything and that is why we will be looking at how we can attain spiritual fervency in our lives and families.

1. Recognize the Need for it
Some people don’t even know what they need and if you don’t know what you need, then you have a long way to go. The Bible says: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). Until you recognize spiritual fervency as a need, God is not committed to make it a reality in your life.
Stop focusing your attention on your physical needs, rather let your focus be on spiritual things because when you are in charge spiritually, you command things in the realm of the physical. I see you make it in Jesus’ name.

2. Desire it
What you do not desire, you do not deserve! It doesn’t just drop on people, you must desire it. God is committed to giving you only what you desire and that is what He performs. The Bible says: Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart (Psalms 37:4).
The power of desire in attaining spiritual fervency is importance and cannot be over-emphasized! There is a pre-requisite, however, to God giving you the desires of your heart. You must delight in the Lord; whatever does not give God pleasure or satisfaction in your life, should be avoided at all cost. To be spiritually fervent, you must desire it; have a strong feeling that you want it.

3. Be Determined
To be spiritually fervent, you must be determined to do so. Be determined to be on fire for God. Determination is a personal decision. No one can decide for another. It is a personal non-transferable decision. Those who lack determination are easily discouraged and never achieve anything meaningful in life.

Read the account of Daniel here: But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself (Daniel 1: 8). Daniel purposed in his heart, decided, determined, and God made it happen for him. No wonder, he and his colleagues were 10 times better than others! He ended up above all (Daniel 6:3).

Purpose is power! Like Daniel, purpose in your heart that your spirit will be on fire for God from henceforth; and then God will make it happen for you.

4. Invest Your Time
Spiritual fervency is not a gift. It is something you have to work at, if you desire it. It does not just happen, you have to make it happen and that will demand that you invest quality time. You have to find out what it takes and give it all takes.

Many people spend time, very few invest it. What we do with it is what makes the difference. So, invest quality time in Word study and prayer. Read anointed books and materials that will open up your understanding, enlighten, encourage, challenge and keep you spiritually active and alert. Daniel said: …I Daniel understood by books … (Daniel 9: 3).

Time is a precious commodity that should be invested and not wasted. Disconnect yourself from the company of time wasters and begin to invest quality time to your spiritual life. Remember, time is life!

5. Receive Help from the Holy Spirit
You cannot attain spiritual fervency without the help of the Holy Spirit. You will need the help of the Holy Spirit on a constant basis. Remember, the Bible says: …For by strength shall no man prevail (1 Samuel 2:9).

The good news however, is that help is always available for you from the Holy Spirit; all you need to do is to call for it. Until you call for His help, you cannot enjoy it. He – the Holy Spirit is your dependable Helper.

6. Work at it Daily
Attaining spiritual fervency is on a daily basis, you must take deliberate steps to build up spiritual momentum that will culminate in a life of spiritual vibrancy.
These truths examined above are the things I personally engage in, so as to maintain spiritual fervency and I can tell you: they work! God is no respecter of persons, so they will work in your life as well.
You need the help of the Holy Spirit, for by strength shall no man prevail. His help is only available to the redeemed of the Lord. To become a child of God, you must first confess your sins and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
If you want to receive Him right now, please pray this prayer of faith with me:

Dear Lord, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You for saving me. Now I know I am born again!
