Topic: Set the Stage [Sunday July 19, 2015]

“Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts…”-Psalm 42:7

Experience, they say, is the best teacher. This is why the wise are those who learn great lessons either from their experiences or the experiences of others. One great benefit you derive from finding a friend in someone who has gone ahead of you therefore is that, you learn to walk the path they walked, without having to make the mistakes they made. So it is with children who have built a bond with their parents, guardians or care givers.

This bond is not necessarily just to feel loved and cared for, but to learn experiences they otherwise, wouldn’t have access to. If you look carefully, children who are closer to adults tend to act a lot older than their ages. This is because they learn wisdom beyond their years and so, can be more mature in their life decisions.

Yes, you may say they are just children; but they have their own ways of learning the rudiments of life. You should create time to share experiences with them, according to what their age and mind can understand and comprehend. Give them scenarios pertaining to every topic you discuss with them, and most importantly, those examples should involve you.

This is because as they have a personal relationship with you, they will much more easily, be able to relate with your stories. No matter what you may have been through in the past, don’t try to hide it all from your children. According to how open you are and feel you should be with them, share those experiences—give them the opportunity to learn from them. Don’t shy away from your responsibility of sharing and teaching.

Parenting is a lot more fun and impactful when you see it as a teaching and learning experience. Your children are special to God, and so are their futures to you. Do all it takes to bring them up right.

Remain Blessed!
