Topic: A Life of Excellence [Thursday March 05, 2015]

“And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things.” – 1 Corinthians 9:25

Everyone loves to be great and hopes to excel in life. However, not many are ready to pay the price for it. Someone said, “Life is not a sprint; it’s a long distance race.” To secure your future, you must learn the act of personal development. Place yourself under a disciplined self-programme that helps to monitor your advancement and take possible steps to change levels in all areas of your life.

One of the ways you can maintain personal development is through self-discipline. It is the ability to regulate your conduct by principle and sound judgment, rather than by impulse, desire, peer-pressure, or social custom. This is one of the most challenging qualities to achieve in personal development.

For example, instead of going out with friends, you must be able to control yourself (at least, some of the time), to stay back and study when you have a test the next day. Self-discipline means that you have to be very determined, to achieve the goals you have set for yourself. Without goal-setting, it is very difficult to go far in life.

Also, you must have a strong desire to achieve your goal. When you have a goal, make sure you pursue it to fulfilment (1 Corinthians 9:26-27). To do this, you must learn to persevere. That is, you strive to pursue continuously your goals, irrespective of the various oppositions or discouragements that may come your way.

Apostle Paul said that he is forgetting those things which were before and looking unto those things ahead. By so doing, he was pressing on to the mark which was set before him. Similarly, you should not dwell on past mistakes, but use them as a guide to greater heights.

Remain Blessed!
