Topic: Supporting her in Ministry [Wednesday June 24, 2015]
“Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;”-Romans 12:10
Some men are more comfortable when they are the ones in Word ministry (that is, the teaching and preaching of it); definitely not when their wives are the ones called. They might feel awkward with her being an active minister when they were not called into the same, because they assume that that places her above them. Some go as far as discouraging their wives, and when that doesn’t work, they place unnecessary conditions on her, using the clause of her expected submission.
While you are not wrong in stating her place of submission, it is unkind and disobedient for you to stop your wife from fulfilling God’s will for her life, based on egoistic or selfish reasons. More so, her being a minister does not stop her from the duties of being your wife. In actuality, your support will help her perform her duties better towards you (as her husband).
Remember that love seeks what is right. So, rather than tear down, be of help. It seeks to make perfect, even as you work together to fulfill God’s will for you.
Your support means that you pray for your minister wife and encourage her to be the best; helping by being her mirror, especially in areas she might not be able to detect failures on her own. See it as you two being in the ministry together; so that when she needs more time to work, you will readily oblige even when it infringes on your time together. Maybe you are called to handle everything behind the scenes and your arrogance is keeping you from even realizing the magnitude of your own purpose.
You know, love is sacrificial and so it is in marriage. Also, your understanding and support is a service to God that would be duly rewarded according to your labour. So, don’t miss out on it.
