Topic: It Is A Privilege [Open Heavens for Teens 24 April 2019]

Memorise: “And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.” – Genesis 14:20

Read: Hebrews 7:1-10.

1 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;

2 To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

3 Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.

4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

6 But he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.

7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.

9 And as I may so say, Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.

10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

Bible In One Year: 2 Samuel 10-12, Luke 19:29-48

MESSAGE:

As teenagers, you are not too young to pay your tithe. Tithing is paying tenth of your income, or in case, any money you get that is to be spent on whatever you want. Unfortunately, tithing, which is a clear injunction in the Holy Bible, has become a controversial issue in Christendom. This ought not to be, Children of God are by lineage also sons of Abraham. In Genesis 14, Abraham returned from a battle with great spoils, and he paid the tithe to Melchizedec. If you claim to be a child of Abraham, one of the works of Abraham that you will carry out is tithing. If you do not tithe, you have no claim to being a child of Abraham. In Genesis 28:22, Jacob, resolving to right and realising what he has neglected earlier, vowed to pay tithes from then onwards.

Tithe is one of the obligations you must perform as a citizen of the heavenly Kingdom. Tithes are never expected or requested of sinners or unbelievers. It is because God has a relationship with you that he has a share in every blessing He gives you. It is a great privilege, never abuse it.

Prayer Point: Thank God for making you a shareholder in His holdings.

Hymn 2:

1 When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2 Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3 Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4 But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5 Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
