Topic: Reinvention

Many years ago I came across a book that shifted my paradigm. I had to share the book with our staff at the time, it is an old book titled “Who Moved My Cheese” by Spencer Johnson. The book is about four characters; Sniff, Scurry, Hem, and Haw. Sniff is always perceiving and sniffing change, Scurry realizes there is change and hurriedly adapts, Hem is afraid of change because he thinks it will lead to something bad. Haw resists change at first but later adapts when he sees the change can lead to something better. The summary of the book is about these 4 characters eating Cheese.

Sniff and Scurry notices the cheese they were eating was reducing each day and decided to go look for new cheese, they searched and searched deep into the maze refusing to go back to the old cheese because they knew it would soon run out. Eventually, they found a huge quantity of cheese far more than what they had before.

The book has basic principles, one of which is that; They keep moving the cheese; in other words, change will always happen in our world.

I shared the book with our staff because God gave us a vision and for us to move from where we were to where we are going, there had to be change and human nature does not like change hence I had to prepare them and make them know that change will happen. If anyone chose to resist the change, such a person will be left behind.

Jesus said in our text that you don’t pour new wine into old wineskins in other words; when God brings seasons when the change will happen, don’t try to force the new into the old.
Our world is changing right now and many of us are unconsciously trying to adapt the new into the old.

New wine means new resources, opportunities, visions, dreams and Jesus is saying that Heaven has new things to pour out but the problem is the container.

When people pray for blessing most of the times we’ve been blessed already. What we are asking is for God to move those blessings from the realm of the invisible into this tangible world and Jesus is saying that it is not God that doesn’t want to give us these blessings but that we don’t have the capacity for the blessing which means if He releases the blessing, it will be wasted.

People that have experienced some measure of success before almost always resist change.
We have to work against the tendency of resisting change if we don’t want to get stuck in life.

What was meant to take us down can actually become an opportunity to translate us into a new dimension.

WHY DO WE RESIST CHANGE?

1. We Are Creatures Of Habit And We Love Routine

We love routine because it gives us stability and predictability. Habits puts our life in autopilot but change comes with instability.

We have fear and anxiety because we are dealing with the unknown and uncertainty that is why we would rather hold onto what has been working, unfortunately we hold on too long and fizzle out with it.

In 1 Kings 17 God gave Elijah an instruction to go to the brook and Elijah was fed there during the famine and he drank from the brook but after a some time the brook dried up, change happened. If I was the one I would have began to bind the Devil because it was God who directed me here so the drying of the Brook must be the doing of the Devil. But Elijah went back to God and God told him to go to the city and meet the widow.

Stop trying to open a door that God has closed, the season has changed we have to move on.

2. We Fear The Loss Of Control Or Influence

3. We Know That With Change We Will Have To Deal With A New Set Of Problems.

Folks say the Devil you know is better than the one you don’t know but dealing with the Devil you know will bring you the same set of victories but a different Devil will come with new testimonies. I understand the message in the adage but we should not use that as an excuse to resist change.

Change always comes with advantages and opportunities

4. We Resist Change Because We Will Have To Learn A New Set Of Skills To Deal With The New Problems

5. We Resist Change Because We Don’t Recognise The Benefits Inherent In That Change

Napoleon Hill said in his book that every adversity comes with the seed of equivalent advantage.
Every situation is always two sides of a coin; on one side is the problem and the opportunity is on the other side. Human nature will recognise the problem first, it is your responsibility to look out for the opportunity.

1 Corinthians 10:13 – There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

You need flexibility to manage a change process. Flexibility in imagination is what will help us to see ourselves with new eyes. God’s calling on our lives is that we become brand new people

Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

This pandemic did not come to take you down but to become a stepping stone to your promotion.

No one should understand reinvention better than a Christian.

1 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 6:3-4 – 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

John 12:24 – Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.

People get stuck because they don’t want to die, dying here means losing control. It is the process of total surrender to God. It is letting go of your old ideas beliefs, values and allowing God guide you into new things whether it makes sense to you or not.

PRAYERS:

Father we thank you because you are the one that creates seasons and you have called this season our season of reinvention. We receive the outpouring of your Spirit upon everyone that is a part of this service. Let this month be a reference point for us.

Let the power of the Holy Spirit produce in every single one of us people that never existed before. Give us new visions, dreams and ideas, open our eyes and ears.

Let your power rest on us, your gifts, your talents, your wisdom and help us to make the right decisions. In Jesus name. Amen.
