Memorise: Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. Mark 9:50

Read: Matthew 5:13

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Bible In One Year: Daniel 11-12; 3 John 1:1-15

MESSAGE:

Do you know that salt can lose its savour? Yes, for example, a little measure of salt put into a large container filled with water. When this happens, it becomes useless. You will barely even be able to taste it. If you add too little salt to your food, it becomes tasteless and if you add too much, it will almost cut off your tongue and you will be unable to eat it.

Did you also know that as a Christian teenager, you are the salt of the earth? As salt, it is your responsibility to sweeten, add value to anyone you meet and everywhere you go. In your school, you should be identified as a valuable person, so also in the church. At home, your impact must be felt by every member of the family. Wherever you find yourself, you must stand out. Your presence must carry a sweet irresistible savour. Good reports and testimonies should be said of you at all times. God should be seen in you and through you.

Salt is also a preservative. Your duty as salt is to preserve, protect and promote the gospel of Jesus Christ, firstly by living an exemplary life and then sharing the word of God to your friends and even strangers. Being salt is not just what you do, it is who you are. It is your identity.

Prayer Point:

Father, help me never to lose my savour.

Hymn: Stand Up! Stand Up For Jesus

  1. Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
    Ye soldiers of the cross;
    Lift high His royal banner,
    It must not suffer loss:
    From victory unto victory,
    His army shall He lead,
    Till every foe is vanquished,
    And Christ is Lord indeed.
  2. Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
    The trumpet call obey:
    Forth to the mighty conflict,
    In this His glorious day;
    Ye that are men now serveHim
    Against unnumbered foes;
    Let courage rise with danger,
    And strength to strength
    oppose.
  3. Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
    Stand in His strength alone,
    The arm of flesh will fail you,
    Ye dare not trust your own;
    Put on the gospel armour,
    And watching unto prayer,
    When duty calls or danger,
    Be never wanting there.
  4. Stand up, stand up for Jesus!
    The strife will not be long;
    This day the noise of battle,
    The next the victor’s song;
    To him that overcometh
    A crown of life shall be;
    He with the King of glory
    Shall reign eternally.
