Topic: Sin Hinders Promises [Open Heavens for Teens 23 February 2019]

Memorise: “Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me forever: but now the LORD saith, be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.” – 1 Samuel 2:30

Read: 1 Samuel 2:28-31

28 Moreover, I selected him out of all the tribes of Israel to be My priest, to offer on My altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before Me. And I gave [from then on] to the house of your father [forefather] all the offerings of the Israelites made by fire.

29 Why then do you kick [trample upon, treat with contempt] My sacrifice and My offering which I commanded, and honor your sons above Me by fattening yourselves upon the choicest part of every offering of My people Israel?

30 Therefore the Lord, the God of Israel, says, I did promise that your house and that of your father [forefather Aaron] should go in and out before Me forever. But now the Lord says, Be it far from Me. For those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.

31 Behold, the time is coming when I will cut off your strength and the strength of your own father’s house, that there shall not be an old man in your house.

Bible In One Year: Numbers 8-10, Mark 5:1-20

MESSAGE:

As a result of the major role Jesus plays in releasing your blessings, you must do everything to avoid offending Him. No matter the temptation or situation, do all you can to remain in favour with the One who can bring God’s promises to pass.

Do you have dreams of a great future? Has God told you of many great things that He will do for and through you in the future? Then you must stay away from sin if you want those dreams to come to pass. You may think that with the corruption all around, it is impossible to stay away from sin, but you should take a cue from Joseph. When Joseph was a slave, he was tempted to commit fornication. His temptation was coming from a woman living in the same house as him. it was intense and sustained for a long period of time, yet, Joseph continued to live holy because he did not want to offend the One who alone can bring his dreams to pass.

Do you know that each time you sin, you introduce stumbling blocks on your path to fulfilling God’s promises for your life? When this continues, it gets to a point where the promise is completely lost or reversed like it happened to Eli’s family (1 Samuel 2:30).

Key Point:

If you want to be great, you must flee every appearance of sin.

Hymn 2:

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Chorus:
Trust and obey, for theres no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
