Topic: Unprofitable Independence [Teens Open Heavens 19, May 2018]

Memorise: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5

Read: Genesis 3:4-5 (KJV)

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

Bible In One Year: 2 Kings 23-25, John 7:1-31

MESSAGE:

Pride makes many not to yield to God. When you surrender all to Him, your ambitions and plans will be determined by Him. The one who is surrendered to God must completely depend on Him. Like a baby, you must go to Him for every of your needs and plans. Nobody can live independently of God and what he or she was originally designed to be.

The sin Adam and Eve committed in the Garden of Eden was not just the sin of disobedience; it was an attempt to be independent of God. Satan told them that they didn’t need to keep depending on God when they themselves could become like Him. The day you decide to do without God, you have signed.

Key Point: If you depend on God, dependence on man will be unnecessary. But if you are independent of God, you will be compelled to depend on men who will fail you.

Hymn 10:

1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!

2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!

3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
You wilt find a solace there..
