TOPIC: Fix Your Eyes On God (TREM Devotional 12 May 2025)

“I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” (Psalms 121:1-2 NKJV)

MESSAGE:

As a Christian, you will be defeated by fear and terror if your eyes are fixed on something else other than God. Your defeat comes by looking in the wrong direction. When you begin to look at the things happening around you, you may wonder whether God has abandoned you.

Many who claim to be believers are distracted; I can tell this by what they say and do. They are frightened and afraid. They are unsure if they will survive tomorrow or where their next meal will come from. Like I’ve always said and it bears repetition, distraction comes from looking around, defeat comes from looking behind, and discouragement comes from looking down. However, deliverance comes when you look up. Who are you looking up to? Do you realize that you cannot look up and look around at the same time? Beloved, help only comes from above, and you cannot look up to God and go down in life.

I recall to mind the story of David in 1 Samuel 30; he was overwhelmed by the activities of the Amalekites, but he refused to look around. He refused to pay attention to the rejection, denial, and accusations from some of his own men. His eyes were fixed on God, which was why he enjoyed total recovery. He wrote in Psalms 34:4, “I sought the Lord, and He heard me…” (KJV). He sought God, not man, and God came through for him. The next verse – Psalms 34:5 further emphasizes the benefits of looking up to God. MAYbe you are confused, distracted, and dismayed because rather than seek Him, you are looking up to man.

Beloved, whenever you feel overwhelmed by life, learn to fix your eyes on God. He alone is your Help. Learn from David, who in Psalms 61:1-3 (KJV) prayed, “Hear my cry, O God; Attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, When my heart is overwhelmed: Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.”
