TOPIC: Make Wise Choices (TREM Devotional 16 January 2022)

“And he said unto Jehoshaphat, wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses.” 1 Kings 22:4 (KJV)

God has given man the power to choose. But we are responsible for the consequences of our wrong choices. God gives us the power of choice. But any choice you make, you are going to be responsible for what comes out of it. You can choose the type of house you want to live in. You can choose the type of car you want to ride in. You can choose the husband or wife you want. You can choose the type of friends you want to have. And you can also choose the type of battle you want to have. Jehoshaphat chose of going into a battle with the king of Israel. And God was not pleased with it because the king of Israel had strayed away from the living God.

You see, when it comes to the things of God, you mustn’t be sentimental. When it comes to the things of God, there is no emotion about it. You must find out what God is saying. What is His will? It is not about whether the person is your brother, sister, or husband. It is about what the will of God is concerning this matter at hand. And you must understand that the fact that you are good and you are serving God with all your heart does not give you immunity from satanic attacks. We still live in a world that is inundated with wickedness and evil. So when you make a wrong choice, there will be consequences.

“He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.” (Ecclesiastes 10:8 KJV)

Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am like you are. Both of us are the same. We are brothers. It doesn’t matter whatever happens. I am ready to go into battle with you. And the scripture tells us that if not for the mercies of God, Jehoshaphat would have been killed. Mercy reached out to him when the enemy went after him in the course of the battle. He was the only one wearing the kings’ robe. Why would the king of Israel that invited him into battle refuse to wear his king’s robe? In other words, he was setting up Jehoshaphat to be killed. The enemy will not destroy you. The plans and the purposes of the enemy will never see the light of the day. The mercy of God will always step in to deliver you.
