A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit. – Proverbs 15:4

The tongue, as we have established is a very important tool in the day of battle. What else does scriptures tell us of this little weapon? Our anchor scripture says “a wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.” James 3:6 says of the tongue: “and the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.” Strong words for such a small member. Now what does “wholesome” means. It means promoting health or well being of mind or spirit; sound in body, mind, or morals. This simply tells us that the tongue which is “full of iniquity” can be and should be wholesome.

The first encounter with the tree of life is from Genesis 3:22, after the fall where God had to drive man out of the garden so he would not eat of the tree of life, thereby having life in his sinful state. This made it clear to use that life cannot abide with iniquity. James 3:10-11 puts it thus: “out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?” Therefore for our tongues to be wholesome, it has to only produce the things that edify, quicken and gives life, just as the tree of life.

How do we achieve this? Again by the Word of God. Christ speaking in John 6:63 said “ the words that I speak unto you,  they are spirit, and they are life.” Daily constant meditation on the Word allows us to reproduce same, thereby being a source of life and encouragement to others, by the simple words we speak. Our tongues should speak wholesome words that will edify the hearers and minister grace to them, Affecting their lives in a positive way, inspiring and motivating them to be what God wants them to be. Speak wholesome words to someone.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Father, thank You for this little organ You’ve placed in me to help me bless lives daily according to your will.  Season my speech with salt always that lives will be nourished through me and I’ll be a source of life to Your glory, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
