Topic: Soft Words [9/8/2016]

Text: Proverbs 15:1

One of the chief weapons of Satan to cause disunity amongst God’s children is “strife”. Strife among any people will always break the cord of unity; Satan has used it as a veritable tool to further wreck havoc in the body of Christ. Apostle Paul told Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:24 that “the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient.” Paul was telling Timothy what should not be known amongst us – strife.

What about when situations arise that could spur strife which is a catalyst for anger, what should be done? Proverbs 15:1 says – “a soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.” Soft words are the antidote to strife. And whenever it is applied, it is very effective. Paul told Timothy to be gentle – gentle with his words when dealing with a situation that will potentially leads to strife.

With the knowledge that Satan wants to bring disunity through strife, wisdom teaches us to answer with soft words and be gentle. Proverbs 15:2 says: “the tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.” Imagine if a wife is so mad at her husband, but the husband instead of picking up the anger that can lead to strife, apologises with soothing words. That’s wisdom at work. Use soft soothing words to turn situations with potentials for strife to moments of bliss and happiness.

Keep winning daily.

Wise Action:
Always know that Satan wants to cause strife between you and your loved one(s) or brethren in church. Use this knowledge to apply the wisdom of soft soothing words always.
