Topic: The Word Nurtures Character [23/7/2016]
Text: 2 Timothy 3:16-17

As sons and daughters of God, we not only possess the life of God, we also have the character traits of God. God infused in us – in our spirit – His characteristics that makes Him God. But sometimes we struggle to live our lives reflective of these character traits not because they are not present in us but because we have not nurture them to life through the Word of God.

In Galatians 5:22-23, Apostle Paul referred to these character traits of God as fruits. These fruits grow up on a tree called the Spirit. And once you’ve got the Spirit – the tree – you’ve got the fruits or characters. But like every tree, for it to bear fruits, it needs tendering and watering. The Word of God is the tenderer (John 15:2) and the water (Ephesians 5:26) that your spirit needs to allow it bear the fruits or characters of God. The Word will nurture your characters to life if you can only put it to use. There are no other ways to show forth the characters of God unless through the Word.

Are you deficient in any of the character traits of the Spirit? Are you finding it difficult to consistently show forth love, meekness, faithfulness, joy, patience, peace, gentleness, temperance and goodness? Then allow the Word help you do that. Apostle Paul, in 2 Timothy 3:16, said the word was “given for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” Use the Word to perfect the character traits of the Spirit in you. That is why it was given you. Don’t miss out on its daily work of perfection.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:
I have the characters of the Spirit. The Word of God as my tenderer and water help me bring these traits to light. It teaches me to be consistent in my exhibition of them as I feed on the Word daily, in Jesus name. Amen.
