Winning Wisdom: You’ve Obtained Mercy

Topic: You’ve Obtained Mercy [20/8/2016]

Text: 1 Peter 2:10

It was okay for folks in the old testament to cry out to God for mercy. It was okay for blind Bartemeus to cry out to Jesus for mercy, for him to be healed. But it is not okay for us, who have received Jesus as Lord and Saviour, to do so. When Jesus died, He paid the sacrifice for sin and provided all that we would ever need in this life. Jesus was God’s response to the cry for mercy from men.

Before Jesus died, everyone needed mercy at frequent intervals. But now we have obtained it, like a trophy. And it is now in our possession. 1 Peter 2:10 says we “which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.” Before now, we had not obtained mercy; but now, at this present time, God’s mercy is our trophy. We don’t need to cry or beg for it anymore. We have it as a possession.

Isaiah 55:3 says: “Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.” Mercy is part of the covenant package we have with God. He is not going to take His mercies from us, because His mercies are forever (Psalm 118:1). It is ours to enjoy daily. Glory to God!

Keep winning daily.

Thank You Lord for Your mercy, which You have given me for a possession. Daily I enjoy Your mercy, because it is new everyday. I know You will never take your mercy from me. Be praised, Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
