Read: Exodus 5:15-23 (NKJV)
- Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried out to Pharaoh, saying, “Why are you dealing thus with your servants?
- “There is no straw given to your servants, and they say to us, ‘Make brick!’ And indeed your servants [are] beaten, but the fault [is] in your [own] people.”
- But he said, “You [are] idle! Idle! Therefore you say, ‘Let us go [and] sacrifice to the LORD.’
- “Therefore go now [and] work; for no straw shall be given you, yet you shall deliver the quota of bricks.”
- And the officers of the children of Israel saw [that] they [were] in trouble after it was said, “You shall not reduce [any] bricks from your daily quota.”
- Then, as they came out from Pharaoh, they met Moses and Aaron who stood there to meet them.
- And they said to them, “Let the LORD look on you and judge, because you have made us abhorrent in the sight of Pharaoh and in the sight of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us.”
- So Moses returned to the LORD and said, “Lord, why have You brought trouble on this people? Why [is] it You have sent me?
- “For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people; neither have You delivered Your people at all.”
THE MESSAGE:
You may remember that in yesterday’s passage, Pharaoh increased the task of the Israelites because Moses and Aaron went to him to demand the release of the children of Israel. The foremen of Israel went to Pharaoh and pleaded that he should reduce their sufferings and remove the added work load, but in verse 17, Pharaoh referred to them as being idle or lazy and insisted that they must do the increased task.
In verse 20, the foremen of Israel left Pharaoh and met Moses and Aaron and complained bitterly against Moses and Aaron and even blamed them for their (Israelites) woes and predicament. This is not a good example to follow. When you fall into trouble, do not complain, abuse or blame your leaders. Complaining against your leaders does not solve the problem. God had a better purpose in mind for the Israelites. If only they had been patient, they would have seen what God would do. In every situation, instead of blaming God or people, simply turn to God in prayers and you will see His mighty works. In Jeremiah 11:29 God says He knows His thought or plan towards us; He wants to give us a future and a hope. Look at the omnipotence of your God, wait upon Him, and He will establish and settle you (Read 1 Peter 5:10).

Judge not the Lord by feeble sense
But trust him for his grace
Behind a frowning providence
He hides a smiling face
