Topic: Brood On The Word! [Saturday March 11, 2017]

Text: Genesis 24:63-67

Key Verse: “And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at the eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming” (Genesis 24:63).

A hungry and famished man would need to eat in order to receive energy and strength to his blood and muscles. In like manner, it is reading the Bible and absorbing its nutrients that transforms a life. Without the word of God, the soul is dead. Isaac the son of Abraham has set out the parameters of a godly practice of meditation and prayer. He had been mourning the departure of his dear mother, Sarah.

Alone in the field, he meditated and sought the face of God. He chose a time most pleasant, in the eventide after the toil of the day. It is important to know that the answers were getting closer on the wings of prayer. The expected bride came and brought an end to sorrow and mourning. Like Isaac, believers should cultivate a lifestyle of meditation on God’s word on daily basis. Meditation leads to respect for God’s word (Psalm 119:23), obedience to His word (Psalm 119:4) and remembrance of His promises (Psalm 143:5). As we remember His promises and great works in our lives, we are challenged to seek Him more. Habitual meditation on God’s word brings the earnest seeker to the depths of God’s riches and grace.

Thought for the day: Truth subjected to meditation opens up the soul.
