Topic: A Dream Spouse! (3)

Dear Reader,

Welcome to another exciting week’s teaching. Last week, we examined the platform for being a successful Christian in a bid to dreaming the right spouse because thriving marriages are products of successful individuals. And until you are first a successful individual, you cannot succeed at being a successfully married person.

This week, I will be concentrating on the tri-dimensional bases upon which many youths make their choice of a dream spouse.  I’ve come to realize that once there’s a form of connection in any of these tri-dimensional bases, many mistake it for the spotting of their dream spouse. What are these bases?

Physical Appearance!

Physical bonding is a relationship that thrives on physical attraction. Some youths make their choices of dream spouses based on what they get physically attracted to in an individual.  The young lady who is light in complexion, slim, and all straight today can become robust and even dark in complexion tomorrow.  While nothing is wrong with this realm of attraction in itself, it is a wrong hypothesis on which to contract a lifelong relationship, because people change over time.

God’s Word says: Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised (Proverbs 31:30).  If the foundation of your dream spouse is only based on the physical appearance of a person, your love will fade as his or her looks change.  There is need, therefore, for caution.

Emotional Tie!

This platform is attached mainly to emotions. For instance, you meet someone for the first time and “fall” head-over-heels in “love”.  You begin to develop strong feelings for the person, and decide to get married.  I tell you, this can be very risky because likes and dislikes change overtime.

That’s why God’s Word says: When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things (1 Corinthians 13:11).  The things you like doing today, you may find childish tomorrow, or you simply lose interest in later.

Spiritual Unity!

This is the most important platform that should be the basis for your dream spouse.  It will also determine how much the marriage thrives and this can only happen between two born-again Christians, because outside Christ, all men are spiritually dead.

When there’s spiritual unity, there is an agreement in the fundamental spiritual matters listed in Hebrews 6:1-2. This implies that not just any Christian will do. You have a responsibility to find out if you agree on certain principles and doctrinal issues.

Some of the principles and doctrines you and your dream spouse must agree on include, Holy Ghost baptism with the evidence of speaking in tongues, water baptism by immersion, eternal judgment, laying on of hands for impartation, etc.  This spiritual agreement will help you focus on the same direction and record success in your marital destiny a great deal.

Going by my personal experience, when I met my husband, I observed that he was (and still is) a very handsome man.  Something from within told me, “This is the man!”  Not only that, we had (and still have) the same mind about various issues of life. But most importantly, what actually brought us together, and has helped us record the kind of success we enjoy in our marriage today, are the Spiritual qualities he possesses: dedication and unwavering commitment to Christ and His Kingdom.

Guess what? He was actually on a trip on Kingdom service when we met!  We have actually been married for over three decades now, and it’s still getting sweeter by the day! You can have the same testimony.

To spiritually discern your dream spouse begins with a new life in Christ. If you are not yet born again, and you would like to do so now, confess your sins and pray this prayer of faith: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today.  I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God.  I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”

If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

Congratulations! You are now born again! All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name. Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through contact@faithoyedepo.org; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.
