Memorise: Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Peter 5:8

Bible Reading: 1 Peter 5:6-9

6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

9 Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Bible Reading In One Year: Psalms 36-37; Acts 23:1-35

MESSAGE:

Goal setting is very important. Someone rightly said, Aim at nothing and you are sure to hit nothing. When you set a goal for yourself, you are bound to hit it with the help of the Almighty. As a student, it is important to set goals that will make you a better student. As a teenager, it is wise to set goals that will set you up for a better tomorrow. However, the greatest goal to set for yourself are spiritual goals.

Once you set spiritual goals for yourself, certain things are likely to happen. The devil has once tasted the glory and beauty of Heaven before any man. He now stands opposed to any man who makes efforts to please God and make heaven. You have to know this fact so that you will understand what is happening when it gets hard to hit the spiritual goals you set for yourself. Satan never worries you much until you decide to set goals that will get you to heaven. Be wise, the Bible says we should be wary of the wiles of the devil. He is going about like a lion seeking whom to devour. He will roar at you with obstacles and hard situations. But if you stand your ground in Christ, he will flee from you.

Prayer Point:

Lord Jesus, please give me the strength to resist the devil and all his wiles.

Hymn: Onward Christian Soldiers

  1. Onward, Christian soldiers,
    marching as to war,
    Looking unto Jesus
    Who is gone before;
    Christ, the Royal Master,
    Leads against the foe;
    Forward into battle,
    See his banner go.

Chorus:
Onward, Christian soldiers,
marching as to war,
Looking unto Jesus
Who is gone before.

  1. At the name of Jesus,
    Satan’s host doth flee;
    On then, Christian
    soldiers, on to victory!
    Hell’s foundations quiver
    at the shout of praise;
    Brothers, lift your voices,
    loud your anthems raise!
  2. Like a mighty army
    moves the church of God;
    Brothers, we are treading
    where the saints have trod;
    We are not divided;
    all one body we,
    One in hope and
    doctrine, one in charity.
  3. Crowns and thrones may perish,
    Kingdoms rise and wane;
    But the Church of Jesus
    Constant will remain:
    Gates of hell can never
    ‘Gainst that Church prevail;
    We have Christ’s own promise-
    And that cannot fail.
  4. Onward, then, ye people,
    join our happy throng,
    Blend with ours your
    voices in the triumph song;
    Glory, praise, and
    honour, unto Christ the King;
    This through countless ages,
    Men and angels sing.
