MEMORY VERSE: Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. – Proverbs 16:18 (KJV)
BIBLE TEXT: Isaiah 14:12-16 (KJV)
12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
LESSON INTRODUCTION: One of the schemes of the devil implanted in the heart of some end-time believers is the inability to know that they are exercising pride; many hearts are lifted in pride, and through this, the hearts of mankind have rebelled against divine purpose, God’s authority and knowledge. This is one of the tricks of the devil that many believers are falling into.
LESSON AIM: To make members understand that one of the tricks of the devil in this end time is pride.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, members should know:
- How to set boundaries in your speech
- Watch the inflow to your heart.
TEXT REVIEW: Isaiah 14:12-16
- A proud person will be thrown down from where he is.
- The desires of the proud bring their destruction.
- It makes them to be replaced and be withdrawn from glorious opportunities.
- A proud person will be despised and disgraced.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE: INGREDIENTS OF PRIDE.
Pride has associates, and they walk together in ruining their prey.
The associates are;
a. Self-satisfaction
b. Arrogance and boasting.
c. High-mindedness
d. Conceit and presumption.
Pride is essentially dangerous because of its silence and stealth at which it operates; when it sits in someone’s heart, it is difficult to uproot or pin down. Pride is basically a sin that has its roots in the attitude of the heart. A proud person will always make emphasis on himself and his achievements.
LESSON OUTLINE TWO: CHARACTERISTICS OF A PROUD
a. Always make reference to themselves just like Satan did five times in Isaiah 14:12-16. “I will ascend, I will exalt my throne, I will sit, I will ascend above, and I will be like Most High”.
b. Always display an unwarranted attitude of confidence.
c. Always display inordinate ambition such as displayed by the devil.
d. A proud person is always dissatisfied when his agenda fails to actualized.
e. A proud person feels uncomfortable with a low placement in life and wants to supplant others to achieve his goal.
f. A proud person finds expression through their display in speech.
SUMMARY: A proud person will be thrown down from where he is.
CONCLUSION: The proud will not escape God’s terrible judgement; therefore, be warned, there is an inevitable downfall of a proud person.
PRAYER POINTS
- Father, send help to the helpless.
- Every siege of pride against me is dismantled in Jesus’ name.
- Father, please stop every wind of shame blowing against God’s ordained plan for our youths.
