Open Heavens for Teens

Topic: Handling Negative Thoughts [Teens Open Heavens 10, July 2018]

Memorise: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. – Philippians 4:8

Read: Philippians 4:6-8 (KJV)

6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Bible In One Year: Psalm 1-3, Acts 16:1-15

MESSAGE:

Believers are expected to keep records of all good deeds done to them by fellow believers and unbelievers. Why? It will help you to think the best concerning them, especially when they harm you or they exhibit a contrary behavior toward you.

If someone offends you and Satan gives you several reasons to dwell on that evil deed, ask yourself; “has this fellow ever done any good to me before? If not me, has this fellow ever been a blessing to someone I know? Is there anything I can appreciate or thank God for in this individual?” After thinking on these things, go ahead to thank God for that individual. You must always endeavor to shut out evil thoughts against a fellow man. Your heart is so delicate that you need good thoughts to preserve it effectively.

Action Point: Ask God to uproot every evil thought from your heart.

Hymn 16
1. Christian, seek not yet repose
Hear thy gracious Savior say;
Thou art in the midst of foes:
Watch and pray.

2. Principalities and power
Mustering their unseen array
Wait for the unguarded hours:
Watch and pray

3. Gird the heavenly armor on,
Wear it ever night and day;
Ambushed lies the evil one:
Watch and pray.

4. Hear the victors who o’ercame,
Still they mark each warriors’s way;
All with one sweet voice exclaim,
Watch and pray.

5. Hear, above all, hear thy Lord,
Him thou loves to obey;
Hide within thy heart His word:
Watch and pray.

6. Watch, as if on that alone
Hung the issue of the day;
Pray, that help may be sent down:
Watch and pray.
