Topic: Honest Dealings [Thursday June 4, 2015]

“Provide for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.” –2 Corinthians 8:21

I remember a story I was told, while growing up. It was the story of a boy who was always known to raise false alarms. His aim was always to scare the villager, which he succeeded in doing for a while. On a particular day, he cried for help as usual and his neighbours assumed he was playing his old tricks again; except that this time, it was real. He needed help, as he was attacked by a snake; you know the end of the story.

Nothing empowers people like the truth, just like nothing diminishes your integrity like dishonesty. A lie always traps and catches up with its victim. When you tell a lie for instance, you end up telling another to cover up the first. It is a continuous chain and so you keep going around circles, entangling yourself the more.

The only solution to this is to say the truth at all times, no matter the circumstance or the persons involved. Remember the Bible says that only the truth can set you free. So, true and lasting peace comes from speaking the truth at all times, that is, not allowing “skeletons grow in your cupboard.”

Let your yes be yes and when it’s no, maintain it. It’s a good legacy when you are known for honesty. You earn the trust and respect of others, and draw greater, higher, and more honourable responsibilities to yourself. With dishonesty therefore, comes a stigma that is difficult to correct. Your destiny is very precious, so don’t erode it with a string of dishonesty.

Remain Blessed!
